The most talked-about red carpet looks at MTV’s Video Music Awards 2025 | CNN style

The MTV Video Music Awards have a rich history of outlandish — and, at times, outright bizarre — fashion. Even without Lady Gaga’s meat dress or Britney Spears’ python, the annual ceremony is guaranteed to deliver over-the-top styling, playful accessories and tributes to icons of VMAs past.

Sunday night was no exception. From underwear-baring sheer gowns to throwbacks from the fashion archives, the event’s red carpet was, this year, fun and risqué in equal measure. Here are some of the most memorable looks from New York’s UBS Arena.  See the looks!

CNN Style | Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani dies aged 91

Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani has died at the age of 91, the Armani Group announced on Thursday.

The designer is credited over his decades of practice with curating a quintessentially Italian aesthetic in his clothes, as well as taking Hollywood’s red carpets to new heights.

“Il Signor Armani, as he was always respectfully and admiringly called by employees and collaborators, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones,” the Armani Group said in a statement, describing the founder as “a tireless driving force.”

“In this company, we have always felt like part of a family,” read a statement provided by the brand on behalf of his family and employees. “Today, with deep emotion, we feel the void left by the one who founded and nurtured this family with vision, passion, and dedication. But it is precisely in his spirit that we, the employees and the family members who have always worked alongside Mr. Armani, commit to protecting what he built and to carrying his company forward in his memory, with respect, responsibility, and love.”  read more

For the event at Zandvoort – which will also mark the 500th World Championship round in which Pirelli have had a presence, with their first being at the maiden championship race at Silverstone back in 1950 – the compounds in play will be the C2 as the hard, the C3 as the medium and the C4 as the soft. This selection is one step softer than that brought to the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix.  read more

CNN Style | The itty-bitty bikini is back, and Dua Lipa and Kylie Jenner are fans

If your surname is Hadid, Jenner or Lipa, a summer break isn’t so much switching on your out-of-office for one precious week but a seemingly endless stretch of sun and sea. And while the backdrops of their photo “dumps” on Instagram might vary, from the pristine deck of a private yacht to a no-filter-necessary beach shack, what their holiday snaps have in common is their swimwear.

When Kylie Jenner posted a mirror selfie of a polka-dot two-piece — caption: “italian summer yes pleaseeee 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍” — the bikini in question was by Frankies Bikinis. (In fact, it was a part of a collaboration between the swimwear brand and Jenner’s own label Khy.)  read more

‘Something you can move in’: How this designer became the go-to for unconventional brides | CNN style

CNN style | ‘Something you can move in’: How this designer became the go-to for unconventional brides

In the fashion industry, where styles are cyclical and the same trends are repeatedly served up in TikTok and Instagram feeds, coming up with a unique and identifiable look is no small feat. Yet, it’s what Danish fashion designer Cecilie Bahnsen has achieved, with puffy sleeves, lace-up details, organza frills and textured jacquard being among the visual signatures of the namesake brand she founded in 2015.

For Bahnsen, developing that aesthetic has been an organic process — one that draws from her Scandinavian heritage (she was born and raised in Denmark, just outside of Copenhagen). While she later spent time working with fashion designers Erdem Moralıoğlu in London and John Galliano in Paris, growing up away from traditional fashion capitals enabled Bahnsen to “really find my voice and creativity,” the 41-year-old designer said over a video call from her studio in Copenhagen.  read more
