CNN travel | Once ‘the world’s egg basket,’ this Gold Rush-era boomtown still delivers culinary riches

Petaluma, California (CNN) — Petaluma’s farm-to-table trend dates all the way back to the California Gold Rush of the mid-1800s. Between lush farmland and a river for transport, the town found itself in a prime position to provide eggs, dairy, meat and veggies to mining towns in the region and down to booming San Francisco, less than 40 miles south.

You can still see faded chicken “Hatchery” business names painted on old brick buildings in what was once locally touted as “the world’s egg basket.” There’s an enthusiastic hometown gathering for the annual Butter & Egg Days Parade and Festival, and at the Petaluma Historical Library and Museum you can get up close to an egg cleaning machine and see an old photo of the town’s former chicken pharmacy (‘cause fowl sometimes feel foul).

The town’s culinary tradition continues today with everything from buffalo milk ice cream and sourdough bagels to Swedish cuisine and famous craft beer. But there are other draws to Petaluma, including shopping among buildings from the 1800s, hip bars, live music and loads of nostalgia.  –read more

The 25 best anti-aging products for wrinkles, dullness and more, according to dermatologists | CNN underscored Beauty/Skin Care

CNN underscored Beauty/Skin Care | The 25 best anti-aging products for wrinkles, dullness and more, according to dermatologists

Nowadays, it seems that all the creams and serums on the shelves are anti-aging products. So, how do you know where to begin? We spoke to five dermatologists to find out what anti-aging skin care actually works and what powerhouse ingredients to look for.

As we get older, our bodies undergo tons of tiny changes that keep us moving. Because the skin is the body’s largest organ, many of these changes stare back at us in the mirror. “Many changes occur within the skin over the years that outwardly are manifested as aging,” says Dr. Carlos Charles, a board-certified dermatologist and co-founder of 4.5.6. Skin.

Some of them are healthy and completely natural, like smile lines or crow’s-feet, though Charles says that sun exposure, pollution and blue light from screen time are the most common external factors that contribute to accelerated aging. “These will gradually cause textural skin changes, hyperpigmentation and even collagen loss, which results in fine lines and wrinkles. [Plus], as we age, the skin cells tend to regenerate more slowly, leading to a duller complexion.” In other words, our skin’s ability to retain moisture, produce collagen and repair itself quickly decreases dramatically over time.  read more

CNN Business | A big problem for Tesla isn’t getting much attention

(CNN) — For years, Tesla has earned billions of dollars from its competitors just for selling electric vehicles. But that windfall is about to go away, just when the company may need it the most.

Regulatory credit sales have been a huge source of revenue for the automaker, which currently faces a sales and profit slump. Legacy automakers purchase credits from Tesla to keep selling gas-burning cars that would otherwise violate emission regulations and cost them a fine.  read more
